About Me

years building secure, scalable systems

Brandon Simpson

I'm Principal Architect and a founding team member at Platform Science. We build the telematics and IoT platform running in over 90% of new heavy-duty trucks globally. Ten years dealing with rapid growth and systems that must work 24/7 or else people don't get paid and operations stop.

I have learned what actually matters. How to build secure and scalable infrastructure that works when connectivity is unreliable. What processes hold up when coordinating hundreds of engineers. How to design mission critical systems that can't afford to fail. And most recently, how to implement AI into global organizations securely and with purpose.

From time to time, I work with organizations facing similar challenges - the startup CTO making build vs buy decisions with limited budget, or the VP of Engineering navigating compliance that turns simple things into six-month projects. I help cut through the noise and architect solutions that actually work. Most of that work right now focuses on AI implementation that doesn't compromise security or waste budget.

What I Work On

AI Implementation

Helping teams move from "we should try AI" to production systems that actually work. Vendor evaluation, pilot design, security review, and integration architecture. The boring parts that matter.

Security Architecture

Building systems that don't leak data or fall over when someone pokes them. Authentication patterns, API security, infrastructure hardening. Secure by default, not secure by accident.

IoT Platforms

Device identity, PKI, telemetry pipelines, remote management. Systems that need to handle thousands of devices reliably. The kind of infrastructure that can't afford downtime.

Enterprise Integrations

Complex B2B integrations with partners and enterprise customers. API contracts that hold up in production, authentication that actually works, and operating models people can support.

Technical Leadership

Getting teams unstuck. Making architecture decisions when there are no perfect answers. Balancing speed, risk, and maintainability. The messy human parts of building software.

System Design

Making things faster and more reliable. Not through heroics, but through boring fundamentals. Better monitoring, clearer contracts, simpler architectures. Systems that teams can actually maintain.
